Post Bariatric SurgeryHouston, TX

Post-bariatric surgery in Houston is a series of procedures that reshape the body after massive weight loss following bariatric surgery (gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, gastric band, or duodenal switch) or diet and exercise.

After weight loss, the patient is left with loose, stretched skin. This excess skin can create folds that may result in physical discomfort from rashes and/or skin breakdown. These skin folds can also make it difficult to buy clothing that fits properly. Surgically removing the excess skin will contour the body for a smoother, slimmer appearance.

Liposuction is typically performed during post-bariatric surgery in addition to procedures designed to lift and tighten sagging skin in select body areas. This helps to enhance the results for an overall more aesthetically pleasing body contour.

Body contouring surgery after massive weight loss is for people who have lost enough weight that they are close to their ideal body weight, but for whom skin laxity has become a problem.

Post Bariatric SurgeryConsiderations

During your post-bariatric surgery consultation with Dr. Erika Sato, she will listen to your concerns about your body and will examine you thoroughly. She will then discuss a surgical plan with you to help you reach your aesthetic goals.

If several procedures are to be performed, it may not be safe to perform all of them in one surgical session.

Am I A GoodCandidate?

You may be a candidate for post-bariatric body contouring surgery if you are in good health, have reached your ideal weight, and are over 18 years old. If you still need to lose more weight, Dr. Sato will advise you to wait before starting the procedures, as further weight loss after the surgeries may result in additional excess skin.

COMMON POST-BARIATRIC PROCEDURESBody Lift

A body lift, also known as a circumferential body lift or belt lipectomy, is performed to remove excess skin or fatty tissue on the body that results from extreme weight loss.

More extensive than a tummy tuck, the body lift is performed on the lower torso and upper legs, and reshapes the abdomen, hips, back, buttocks and outer thighs.

COMMON POST-BARIATRIC PROCEDURESTummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is one of the most popular procedures done as part of post-bariatric surgery. Excess skin and fat are removed, and the muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened to flatten and contour the abdomen. An abdominoplasty is done as part of a body lift.

COMMON POST-BARIATRIC PROCEDURESArm Lift

An arm lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the upper arms. The soft tissue in the upper arm can become lax and begin to sag over time as part of substantial weight loss. An arm lift creates a more toned, youthful appearance.

COMMON POST-BARIATRIC PROCEDURESThigh Lift

A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and subcutaneous tissue within the thigh region that has occurred as a result of significant weight loss. A thigh lift can restore a toned and smoother look to the upper legs.

COMMON POST-BARIATRIC PROCEDURESBreast Lift / Breast Augmentation

After significant weight loss, a woman’s breasts can become deflated and sag. A breast lift can lift the breasts higher on the chest wall, while a breast augmentation may also be desired to restore overall volume or specifically upper pole fullness to the breast. These procedures can be performed separately or simultaneously.

COMMON POST-BARIATRIC PROCEDURESMale Breast Reduction

Men who lose a substantial amount of weight following bariatric surgery may find that their gynecomastia, a condition in which men develop excess breast tissue, did not resolve fully with the weight loss. Some are left with sagging excess skin or enlarged, stretched out areolas.

Removing the excess skin and tissue in a male breast reduction procedure provides a firm, masculine-looking chest.

POST-BARIATRICSurgery

A post-bariatric surgical plan varies greatly from one patient to the next. While some procedures may be performed in our on-site surgical facility under local anesthetic and IV sedation, others may require general anesthesia in a facility with overnight capabilities. Dr. Sato will fully explain each procedure so that you know exactly what to expect before, during, and after every surgery.

Post Bariatric SurgeryRecovery

You may visit the pages devoted to the various procedures to learn more about recovery from each. However, Dr. Sato will provide you with complete instructions regarding your recovery and post-operative care.

Post Bariatric SurgeryCost

Post-bariatric surgery cost varies from patient to patient based on the exact procedures they require. Additionally, the price will be impacted by the size and number of areas being contoured, the amount of tissue removed, the total surgery time, and the number of surgical sessions needed.
