Eyelid SurgeryHouston, TX

Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery or an eyelid lift, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of your eyes. Dr. Erika Sato can perform eyelid surgery in Houston on the upper eyelids and/or the lower eyelids.

This cosmetic facial procedure can correct drooping, bulging, or sagging eyelids that cause people to appear fatigued or much older than their actual age. During it, surgeons tighten muscles and tissue and remove excess skin and fat. In some cases, doctors also call it under eye bag surgery.

Dr. Sato can also perform a procedure that can create “double eyelids” or a more apparent upper eyelid crease, most commonly performed on people of Asian descent. Surgeons sometimes call this procedure Asian blepharoplasty.

While Dr. Sato sometimes incorporates fat removal as part of an eye lift, some patients will need fat grafting to import fat from another area of the body to help fill in the hollowing around the eyes.

Eyelid SurgeryConsiderations

During your eyelid lift consultation with Dr. Erika Sato, she will tell you more about your options for creating more attractive or younger-looking eyes while still preserving a natural look. She will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Dr. Sato will look over your medical history, including allergies, pre-existing conditions, past surgeries, and current medications and supplements. This will help her minimize the chance of complications and ensure that the blepharoplasty procedure is completely safe for you.

Surgeons often perform eyelid rejuvenation surgery in conjunction with other facial procedures such as a facelift, skin rejuvenation therapy, and/or laser skin resurfacing.

Dr. Sato will create a surgical plan to achieve your desired results using her years of experience with this procedure. Finally, a date will be set for the eyelid surgery.

Am I A GoodCandidate?

If you are in good overall health with no serious eye conditions and dislike the appearance of your eyes, you may be a candidate for blepharoplasty surgery. Ideal candidates have realistic expectations and are non-smokers. Smoking can negatively affect skin health, and because of this, smokers will need to quit several weeks before their procedure.

During your consultation, Dr. Sato will evaluate your medical history and examine your eyes to determine if upper eyelid surgery and/or lower eyelid surgery is right for you. Depending on your expectations, she may suggest a combination of procedures in order to achieve the results that you want.

BLEPHAROPLASTYProcedure

This outpatient procedure can be performed awake with local anesthesia in our in-office procedure room or under IV sedation and a local anesthetic at our in-office operating room. The time required for the surgery will depend on the complexity of each individual case. Typically, upper blepharoplasty is performed first, followed by lower blepharoplasty.

During the procedure, very small incisions are created in key regions of the eyelids. Next, drooping muscles are tightened, excess skin is removed, and excess fat is removed and/or repositioned. Finally, dissolvable sutures are used to seal the incisions.

BLEPHAROPLASTYRecovery

Most patients return to work 7 days after blepharoplasty. Strenuous activity should be avoided until the skin incisions are healed, which can take 1-2 weeks. Follow Dr. Sato’s recovery instructions as closely as possible for best results.

There will be intermittent tearing and/or dryness of the eyes, along with some mild tenderness, bruising, and swelling around the eyes. An ice pack can be applied for the first 24 hours to help decrease swelling and bruising. Head elevation for the first week after surgery will help decrease swelling. Any permanent sutures will be removed at your first postoperative visit a few days after your surgery.

Are the resultsPermanent?

Eyelid rejuvenation is permanent, but over time, the aging process does continue to affect the skin around your eyes.

Eyelid SurgeryCost

The price of eyelid surgery in Houston is dependent on the details of each procedure. Its cost is based on factors such as total procedure time, techniques, and anesthesia.
