Breast LiftHouston, TX

A mastopexy, commonly known as a breast lift, is a surgical procedure to restore youthful shape and lift to the breasts. Dr. Erika Sato regularly performs the breast lift for Houston patients.

This procedure is ideal for addressing breasts that have sagged or lost volume or fullness as a result of gravity, aging, weight loss, pregnancy, and/or breastfeeding. It can also correct asymmetries.

Some women decide to have a breast augmentation simultaneously with their breast lift. Combining a breast lift and augmentation is especially advantageous when a woman desires both a lift and an increase in overall size or upper pole fullness.

While a breast lift without implants is the better choice for patients who only want to reduce sag, a breast lift with implants can add volume and shape for a more attractive appearance.

Breast LiftConsiderations

During your breast lift consultation with Dr. Erika Sato, you will learn more about your options for creating your ideal breast appearance.

She will talk with you in detail about how you wish your breasts to look, including the placement of the nipples and the size of the areolas. The goal is to create breasts that are in proportion with the rest of your body.

Combining a breast lift and implants in a single surgery is a popular option and is known as a breast augmentation with lift. If you are considering breast implants as well as a breast lift, please read the breast augmentation page for information on the types of implants available.

Am I A GoodCandidate?

You may be a candidate for a breast lift if you are healthy and over the age of 18. Given the variety of reasons for wanting a breast lift, it is important to discuss any potential alternative procedures, as well as address any surgical safety concerns during your consultation.

Dr. Sato will examine you and review your medical history in order to determine whether a breast lift is right for you. If it is, a surgical plan will be created and a date will be set for the surgical session.

Breast LiftProcedure

A breast lift is an outpatient procedure usually performed under a local anesthetic and IV sedation at our in-office operating room or under general anesthesia at an ambulatory surgery center. Every case is different, so the length of surgery can vary.

Dr. Sato will remove excess skin and re-position the breast tissue and nipple-areola complex higher on the chest. The breast is reshaped by tightening supporting tissues, giving the breast a firmer, uplifted, youthful appearance.

The fullness or roundness in the upper pole of the breast does not change after a breast lift. The size of the areola (the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple) can also be reduced during a breast lift.

There are some visible scars after a breast lift that could be placed around the areola, vertically from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease, and/or under the breast’s natural crease. There are several different techniques with various resultant scar patterns.

The techniques that leave less scarring are preferred for appropriate patients. At your consultation, Dr. Sato will determine which technique is best for you and will explain where the incisions will be made.

Breast LiftRecovery

Most women return to work 10 days to 2 weeks after breast lift surgery. You will likely experience soreness, bruising, and swelling for several days.

Paper tape is placed over the incision and is left in place for 1-2 weeks. A surgical bra will be worn for several weeks as your body heals during the recovery process. Scars will continue to fade with time and can usually be concealed by clothing, including bras, bathing suits, and low-cut tops.

Strenuous activities should be avoided until the skin incisions are healed, which can take up to 4-6 weeks.

Breast LiftCost

The price of a breast lift varies depending on several factors. Mastopexy cost is impacted by the techniques chosen, the amount of tissue removed, and many other factors. Breast LiftFrequently Asked Questions

Can a Breast Lift be Combined with Breast Augmentation or Reduction, and what are the benefits?
Yes, combining a breast lift with augmentation provides the added advantage of not only lifting sagging breasts but also increasing their size and fullness. Conversely, a lift with reduction can alleviate discomfort from overly large breasts while improving their position and shape.
What Factors Should Be Considered by Patients Undergoing Combined Breast Procedures?
Combining a breast lift with breast augmentation or reduction is a more complex surgery, requiring a surgeon with specific experience. The recovery process may be longer or more uncomfortable with combined procedures.
How Can I Speed My Recovery and Minimize Scarring from Breast Lift Surgery?

Limit activity as recommended and diligently follow wound care instructions. Do not smoke, it can delay healing as it decreases blood oxygen levels and circulation, potentially leading to infection and the development of more pronounced scar tissue. Silicone gel sheets and scar creams can reduce scar thickness and may be recommended after incisions have fully healed.

Wear undergarments for proper breast support during recovery and beyond. Support your body’s overall healing process by eating a healthy diet and proper hydration. Protect incision sites from exposure to the sun and other forms of UV rays for at least a year to avoid scars from darkening.

Does Breast Lift Surgery Affect Nipple Sensation?
Changes in nipple sensation post-surgery are possible. While many women experience temporary changes or numbness, sensation typically returns to normal within a few months. However, there is a small risk that changes in sensation could be permanent.
Does a Breast Lift Affect Breastfeeding?
Depending on the techniques used during surgery, a breast lift can potentially affect the ability to breastfeed. Discuss with your surgeon beforehand your desire to preserve milk ducts and maintain the option to breastfeed in the future.
How Does Pregnancy Alter the Results of Breast Lift Surgery?
Breast enlargement, skin stretching, and hormonal changes during pregnancy can alter the results of a breast lift procedure. It may be recommended to undergo surgery after you have completed your family to avoid changes that result from pregnancy.
What Is the Expected Longevity of Breast Lift Results, and How Can Patients Prolong Their Outcomes?
To prolong breast lift results and minimize the natural impact of aging, always wear bras and undergarments that provide support. A healthy diet and regular exercise will help maintain a stabilized weight and avoid fluctuations that will impact the appearance and position of breasts.
