On the BlogWhat to Expect During Your Breast Augmentation Recovery

The recovery period is essential to any kind of surgery, and breast augmentation is not an exemption. Many women who get breast implants often prepare for what comes before the procedure, and only a little for what comes after.

It’s not enough to prepare for activities to help you pass time while you are in the recovery stage. It’s also beneficial if you’re mentally prepared, because it makes the recuperation period tolerable and manageable.

We’re not saying that the recovery period is intensely painful and uncomfortable. What we mean to say is that you can fully prepare if you know what to expect, which can make a big difference to your overall breast augmentation journey.

Here are some things to keep in mind as you go through the recovery period.

On the first 24 hours after surgery

The surgery will put your body under stress, so you’ll feel weak and groggy after you wake up from surgery. This is normal and expected. Arrange for someone to drive you home and to take care of your needs while at home, so your body can rest fully.

Moreover, you can expect aches and pains as your body adjusts to your new implants. Dr. Sato will prescribe pain medications to you, so you can find relief from the discomfort.

The first seven days

Soreness, bruising, swelling, and any discomfort will subside in a few days. If you prefer to manage them with a pain reliever, you can find relief with Tylenol. Just avoid aspirin or ibuprofen, as they can increase bleeding risk.

With your doctor’s consent, you can take a shower two days after surgery, and return to work after one week post-surgery.

In the second week

Aches and pains may still be present, but the sensation will only be mild and can be manageable with over-the-counter pain medications. At this time, you can resume your normal routines, but limit activities to light ones so as not to strain the incisions.

Six weeks – Three Months after surgery

The result of breast augmentation is immediate. However, you can only appreciate the results once your implants have settled, and the bruising and swelling have subsided. It can take your implants anywhere from six weeks to three months or more to fully settle. But once they have settled into a permanent position, it’s safe to go back to the gym and shop for new bras. Scars, pain, and any discomfort will also begin to fade.

It may be a while before you can enjoy your new breasts, but once your implants have settled, and the bruising and swelling have gone away, you can say your breast augmentation was worth the journey.
