Frown lines form when facial expressions are made as the muscle under the skin contracts. Over time, as your skin ages, these repeated expressions cause permanent frown lines. Neurotoxins, such as XEOMIN®, are prescription medications that block the release of chemicals that cause these muscle contractions, so that frown lines are temporarily softened or eliminated.
Xeromin® is the brand name for incobotulinumtoxinA, a therapeutic muscle-relaxing agent. It is FDA approved to treat severe frown lines between the eyebrows.
For optimum results, many patients choose to use Xeomin® in conjunction with a facelift and/or laser skin resurfacing. For furrows and wrinkles that are caused by loss of volume rather than muscle activity alone, Dr. Sato provides BOTOX®, Juvéderm® XC, Juvéderm® Voluma™ XC, Radiesse®, Belotero Balance®, Restylane®, Restylane® Silk®, and Restylane® Lyft®, dermal fillers that restore volume.
Who is a good candidate for Xeomin® injections?
Anyone looking to enhance their appearance by eliminating unwanted lines or wrinkles may be a good candidate for Xeomin® treatment. During your consultation, Dr. Sato will evaluate your medical history and examine your skin to determine if Xeomin® is right for you.
What happens during Xeomin® treatment?
Using a very fine needle, Dr. Sato will place a series of tiny injections into designated muscles of your face that are causing the unwanted lines and wrinkles. There may be mild discomfort or a stinging sensation during the injection but rest assured that Xeomin® is very safe. The treatment takes only a few minutes, requires no anesthetic, and recovery is immediate, allowing you to return to work with no restrictions that same day.
What can I expect while recovering from Xeomin® treatment?
Immediately following Xeomin® treatment, some patients may experience minor bruising at one or more of the injection sites. Results are apparent as soon as 24 hours after the treatment and continue to improve up to seven days. The effects of Xeomin® typically last 3-4 months, although many have reported results lasting up to a full year.
