new breasts

With the help of Dr. Sato, you finally have the breasts of your dreams. What can you do to keep them looking great? These tips will help you take care of your breasts after breast augmentation.

It Starts with Recovery

Taking care of your new breasts starts the minute you arrive home after surgery. You need to give your body time to heal. Expect to feel soreness during the first 24-48 hours and to miss about a week from work. During this time give yourself plenty of time to rest. Make sure you come to all of your post-surgery appointments with Dr. Sato so we can assess your healing and answer any questions.

You’ll also need to avoid strenuous exercise for several weeks and wear a soft bra (no underwire) until your incisions have fully healed. After you’re healed, wear a bra to provide extra support. Giving yourself adequate time to heal helps to ensure that your implants get off to a great start.

Massage the Breasts

Dr. Sato may ask you to massage your breasts starting a week or two after surgery. This is called implant displacement and involves moving the implant throughout the breast pocket. If you’ll need to do this, she’ll give you detailed instructions on when to start and what to do. If used, implant displacement is typically continued indefinitely. Some types of implants, like textured implants, do not require massaging, so make sure you listen to Dr. Sato’s instructions.

Check Your Breasts

Having implants doesn’t mean you don’t need to check your breasts for signs of breast cancer. You should perform regular breast self-exams. This might be tricky at first, but as you get familiar with the new look and feel of your breasts it should be as easy as ever.

In addition to at-home checks, you need to visit your doctor regularly for professional breast examinations. And don’t forget those mammograms. Mammograms are a useful tool for catching breast cancer, even with implants. Here are some tips to ensure that you get great results from your mammograms after implants.

Taking care of breast implants doesn’t take much effort and the results are certainly worth it. Enjoy your new breasts!
