I’m Getting Breast Augmentation… What Should I Bring with Me to My Procedure?

breast augmentation
What do you need to bring when you come in for breast augmentation surgery? This helpful list can be a useful tool as you prepare for your surgery. We’re excited to help you achieve the breasts of your dreams. If you have any questions, call our offices at 713-791-0700.

What Should I Wear?

When you get dressed the morning of your breast augmentation, think comfort, not fashion. You’ll want clothing that is easy to put on and easy to take off. The clothes you wear in will be the clothes you wear home.

  • Button Up Top: Lifting your arms can be painful the first few days after surgery, so choose a button up or zip up top. You’ll want it to be loose and roomy, not fitted. A men’s dress shirt is a great choice.
  • Elastic Waist Pants: Exercise pants, sweat pants or pajama bottoms are all comfortable choices for pants. Choose pants that you’ll be comfortablelounging in or sleeping in when you get home. You aren’t going to want to change your clothing before you crawl into bed.
  • Slip-On Shoes: Skip those lace up tennis shoes and opt for comfortable slip-ons instead. Ditch the heels and wear flats.
  • Glasses: If necessary, wear your glasses (not your contacts).

What Should I Bring In with Me?

Pack a bag with a few items that you might want with you during your wait before and right after surgery.

  • Lip Balm: Just in case your lips feel chapped or dry after surgery.
  • Something to Occupy You While You Wait: Many women feel nervous before breast augmentation surgery. Music to listen to or a magazine to read can help pass the time and make you feel more comfortable.
  • Paperwork and Instructions: If we gave anything to you and asked you to bring it in.
  • Hair Ties: Some women want hair ties or an elastic headband to keep the hair out of their eyes after surgery.
  • List of Questions: If you’ve thought of a last minute question or two, bring a list with you. You might think you’ll remember, but in the nervousness before surgery, it is easy to forget.

Post-Surgery Needs

These will help you feel more comfortable in the car on the way home.

  • Someone to Drive You: You won’t be able to drive right after surgery. Bring along a friend or family member to drive you home and to provide care in the initial hours after surgery.
  • Water: You may feel thirsty after surgery. Bring a water bottle and a straw so you can get a drink if desired.
  • Crackers: Some patients want a little snack for the ride home. Opt for small, easy to eat items. Your stomach may feel a little queasy. Crackers are a wonderful choice.
  • Pillow and Blanket: A blanket can help if you feel chilly in the car on the way home. A pillow is great for getting comfortable in the car.
