Start 2017 Feeling Great: Your Guide to Breast Augmentation

Do your small breasts make you feel inadequate as a woman? Do you feel like your clothes will fit better if you have bigger breasts? If so, getting a breast augmentation can give you a womanly figure you desire as well as boost your self-confidence.

Of course, getting a breast augmentation can be life altering, so it pays to make a well-informed decision. As you contemplate on this matter, use this guide to help you. Bear in mind that this does not replace a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon, but it can enlighten you on what you need to know about it.

  • Ideal Candidates

Besides having small breasts and improving self-esteem, you make a good candidate for breast augmentation if you have asymmetrical or sagging breasts. Women who need breast reconstruction after breast cancer treatment can also be good candidates for this procedure. Additionally, it helps to be in good overall health to get better results.

  • Breast Types

There are two types of breast implants, and selecting which one will be one of the most important decisions you have to make. Both saline and silicone implants provide beautiful results, but each one has its own pros and cons. Dr. Sato will help you decide which one is more suitable for your unique case.

  • Incisions

Another critical decision you have to make is to choose where to place the incisions. To minimize scarring while providing ample support for your new breasts, Dr. Sato will help you determine if inframammary, peri-areolar, transumbilical or trans-axillary incision is suitable for you.

  • Procedure

Before performing the surgery, a board certified anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia. Dr. Sato will then make incisions in the areas that are less conspicuous to minimize visible scars. After the incisions, Dr. Sato will place the implants either under the pectoral muscle or behind the breast tissue. The placement of each implant will depend on the type of implants, their size, your body type, patient desires, as well as recommendations from your surgeon. Once Dr. Sato is satisfied with the implants’ placement, she will close the incisions using layered sutures and surgical tape.

  • Recovery

Depending on how fast you heal, your doctor will limit your activities to less strenuous ones for at least four weeks. You can expect swelling, bruising and pain during your recovery period, but they will improve in the next few days after surgery. Dr. Sato will provide you with preparation and recovery instructions to ensure that you will heal properly.

The changes are immediate following surgery. However, you will appreciate the results once the swelling and bruising subside. As it may take some time to heal, the cold season is the best time to get this surgery, so you will emerge with new, perkier and more beautiful breasts this 2017.
