How RenuvionWorks

Renuvion combines two energy-based technologies—radiofrequency energy (RF) and cold helium plasma—to tighten the skin with minimal downtime. Radiofrequency energy has a long history of safe and effective application in the field of cosmetic medicine.

RF energy causes collagen to be produced at an increased rate and deep skin tissues to contract instantly. The skin’s tone, texture, and firmness are all improved naturally over time because of the thickening, firming, and smoothing effects of collagen.

When helium gas is subjected to an electric current and conversion, a cold helium plasma is produced. While the radiofrequency is applied to your skin, the resultant plasma will quickly cool your skin to a tolerable temperature and shield any nearby tissues from harm.

The Renuvion device is able to heat tissues to a significantly greater temperature than previous RF devices because it combines two energies (one to heat and one to cool). That means we can treat more advanced cases of sagging in a single session, with better and more dramatic outcomes and a shorter recovery time, all while keeping you safe and comfortable.

Renuvion Cosmetic TechnologyConsiderations

During your Renuvion treatment consultation with Dr. Erika Sato, she will discuss with you your concerns about your skin and expectations and goals for the procedure. Most areas of the body can be treated with Renuvion, the most popular areas being the lower face, neck, abdomen and upper arms. Dr. Sato will advise you whether or not you are a good candidate for the Renuvion or if you would be better served with a face/neck lift, tummy tuck or brachioplasty (depending on which areas of your body you are consulting about).

Am I A GoodCandidate?

Most healthy adults are potential candidates for the Renuvion. Dr. Sato will examine you and review your medical history in order to determine whether Renuvion treatment is right for you.

RenuvionTreatment

Small incisions are made (~5mm in length) in the skin in order to access the subcutaneous plane. A liposuction cannula is first used to “free up” a working space beneath the skin for the Renuvion. The Renuvion is then placed under the skin creating multiple passes in the area being treated. The amount of time needed for the Renuvion portion of the procedure varies on the surface area to be treated. For example, on average, it takes ~45 minutes to treat the abdomen after the liposuction portion is completed.

RenuvionRecovery & Results

After Renuvion treatment, you can expect your skin in the area treated to swell slightly with bruising. This typically lasts 7-10 days. You will see skin tightening almost immediately with ongoing changes for 6-9 months.

Renuvion treatment is a one-time treatment and the results are considered permanent. Your skin will continue to age over time with ongoing loss of elastin and collagen and therefore your skin in the area treated will regain laxity or become loose or sagging over the years to follow the treatment. Lifestyle changes such as pregnancy, weight gain and/or weight loss and nicotine use can also lead to increased laxity or sagging of the skin in the areas treated. To sustain the results of the Renuvion treatment practice good lifestyle habits such as the daily use of sunscreen, regular diet and exercise and avoid nicotine use and excessive alcohol intake.

RenuvionAftercare

The aftercare steps following Renuvion treatment are designed to help you maintain the results of your treatment. The best way to do this is to follow the instructions provided by Dr. Sato. It’s important to follow these steps:

  • Avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks following the procedure.
  • Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for two weeks after treatment.
  • Avoid hot tubs or saunas for two weeks after treatment.
  • Avoid tanning beds for two weeks after treatment.
  • It is also important to drink plenty of water following Renuvion treatment. Your body needs water to function properly and heal itself afterwards.

Remember that the results of your Renuvion procedure are not permanent. If you stop taking care of your skin, new damage can occur.
